Luther College campus update: flood 2008 (includes video)
Luther College campus is open, safe and secure, and summer programs and activities are resuming while volunteer crews continue work on sandbag walls and other flood emergency operations. Northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota are predicted to receive 4-6 inches of rain from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, June 11-12, and the college and community are making preparations to deal with the expected resurgence of water levels in the Upper Iowa River. Previous Luther updates
Luther campus open, colleges summer programs, events go on: The Luther College campus is open and all summer programs, classes and camps, except the June 12-15 Ultimate Frisbee Camp, are expected to go forward as scheduled. Campus was closed Monday, June 9, as the college and the Decorah community conducted emergency operations to deal with record-level floods. As of noon Tuesday, June 10, most college buildings, facilities and departments are back to normal operations. Read more: http://tinyurl.com/3phtxa
College handling Upper Iowa River flooding: We want to provide you with information about the situation on Luther campus as we deal with current flood conditions. The Winneshiek County Emergency Management Agency believes this flood may be the worst in the history of Winneshiek County, and certainly the worst since the Corps of Engineers built the dike system through Decorah in the 1960s. Luther President Richard Torgerson names Peggy L. Ettestad to Board of Regents
Luther College President Richard Torgerson has announced the appointment of Peggy L. Ettestad to the Luther Board of Regents. Ettestad, senior managing director of Residential Capital Corporation in Minneapolis and a resident of Eden Prairie, Minn., will join the colleges governing board at its October meeting. Alumni Corner
Jennifer Smith Hoesing 02, is a winner in the first annual Recognizing Best Practices in Access awards by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and VSA Arts of Florida. The awards are part of a new statewide initiative to recognize accessible cultural programs and the outstanding work taking places in Florida to improve access to arts and culture for people with disabilities. She serves as director of education at LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts in Tallahassee.
Jennifer Bernstone 96, is back at Bristol Valley Theater for her 4th season. She is one of the leads in The Musical of Musicals. She also plays a raven and choreographs The Robber Bridegroom.
Anne M. Fretheim 91, received a doctorate from the University of Minnesota Department of Education in educational policy and administration in December 2007. She has taught in international schools in Kuwait; Johannesburg, South Africa; Tunis, Tunisia; and will be teaching in Kongsberg, Norway next school year. She received a masters degree from the University of Minnesota in 2002 in applied linguistic. She teaches English and has trained in and taught high school international baccalaureate courses. She graduated from Luther with majors in English and French and then received her teaching ed. at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 1992.
