Luther College campus update: Decorah flood of 2008

A week after floodwaters have receded from the lower campus of Luther, the college is going forward with most summer programs and activities, and all campus buildings and facilities are back in operation except sections of the Regents Center athletic building and grounds. Luther College student Emily E. Ewing receives undergraduate fellowship

Emily E. Ewing, a Luther College junior from Vail, Colo., has been awarded a 2008 Fund for Theological Education Undergraduate Fellowship. Ewing’s $2,000 fellowship is funded by the Fund for Theological Education, a leading ecumenical advocate for excellence and diversity in Christian ministry and theological scholarship. FTE Undergraduate Fellowships recognize students who have gifts for leadership and are exploring the possibility of ministry as a vocation. Alumni Corner

Michelle Voigts ’11, attended the 2008 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders June 5-7 at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Adam Matz ’00, graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with a doctor of pharmacy degree. He is currently working for Target Pharmacy in the Des Moines area.

Chris Johnson ’87, is one of three Beloit College choreographers collaborating for the Chicago premiere of Chelonia Dance Friday-Saturday, July 18-19 at 8 p.m. in the Ruth Page Center for the Arts in Chicago. The 24-member Chelonia Dance will feature Beloit College faculty and dance students as well as graduates of the program and members of several professional companies in the Chicago area. Dave Weinrich ’ 74, planetarium coordinator at Minnesota State University Moorhead, is in Accra, Ghana helping to establish the first public planetarium in West Africa. More info is available at http://ghanascienceproject.net/.

Paul Hesterman ’73, has been named Interim Vice-President of Student Affairs at Metropolitan State University, Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.

Senator Dave Senjem ’64, R-Rochester, recently completed his sixth session in the Minnesota Senate and his second session as Senate Minority Leader. In addition to his duties as Minority Leader, Sen. Senjem serves on the following committees: Taxes, Rules and Administration, Capital Investment, Energy and Environment, and Higher Education. Senjem resides in Rochester and is in his 44th year with Mayo Clinic.
