Luther Professor Philip Freeman to appear on WGN ‘Extension 720’ (Added June 20)

Philip Freeman, professor of classics at Luther College (http:///www.luther.edu) will appear on Chicago’s WGN Radio ‘Extension 720’ program with host Milt Rosenberg on Monday, June 23, 9-11 p.m. Rosenberg’s interview with Professor Freeman is in conjunction with the release of Freeman’s latest book, “Julius Caesar,” released in May by Simon & Shuster publishing company. VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery project seeks volunteers (Added June 20)

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Flooding in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor has left tens of thousands of people homeless and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to homes. Much flood recovery work needs to be done, and Volunteers in Service to America is seeking people who can work for the VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery project. The VISTA project offers an opportunity to help with flood relief while earning a monthly living allowance and an educational benefit. Former faculty death (Added June 20)

Retired Luther faculty member Helen Houden, age 84, of Decorah, died Thursday, June 19, at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah following a short illness.

Helen taught in the Luther Music Department from 1967 to 1994.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, at Decorah Lutheran Church. Private family burial ceremony will be in Belvidere, Illinois. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at Decorah Lutheran Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
