Luther College announces two $1 million gifts

Luther College has received two $1 million gifts to support college endeavors including faculty fellowships, student scholarships, the Sampson Hoffland Laboratories, and more.

At its May 2008 meeting, the Luther Board of Regents designated a gift of over $1,270,000, received from the estates of Leon and Helen Koebrick, to establish two endowments–the Leon and Helen Koebrick Endowment for New Faculty Study and the Leon and Helen Koebrick Endowment for the Center for Sustainable Communities. Weston Noble Alumni Choir reunion July 28-Aug. 2 at Luther College

Alumni from the choirs of Luther College across seven decades will gather on the Luther campus July 28-Aug. 2 for the second Weston Noble Alumni Choir reunion, culminating in a gala concert Saturday, Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Luther’s Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.

Alumni can register for the event at web site www.westonnoblealumnichoir.org. The web site provides complete information and contacts for registration, housing, fees and event schedule. Alumni Corner

Ginny King ’05, has been named Western Region Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.

Lynn Christianson ’01, is a staff member of The Cornucopia Institute, an organization that promotes economic justice for family-scale farming, works to protect the organic label, and informs the public.

Elizabeth Jensen ’96, presented research at the Central Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Columbus, Ohio on June 11. Her poster was titled “An Analysis of Lead Concentrations in Soils at Fruit Orchards in the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Area.” This was her 2007 summer research project, which she worked on with undergraduate student Shannon Henderson.

David Heaton ’95, recently completed six years of middle school teaching in the Durant Community School District.

He has accepted a position as head of the social studies department at The George Washington School in Cartagena, Colombia, and will begin teaching in August.
