Luther College to celebrate Homecoming Oct. 2-4
Luther College will celebrate Homecoming 2009 Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2-4, bringing more than 5,000 students, alumni and friends of the college to the Luther campus for class reunions, football, music, dance, theater and other events.

Luther College to honor 12 alumni with Distinguished Service Awards
Luther College President Richard L. Torgerson will present the Luther Distinguished Service Award to 12 alumni Friday, Oct. 2, at a ceremony that is part of the colleges annual homecoming celebration.
The Distinguished Service Award, on of the highest honors bestowed by the college, is given in recognition of success and achievement in professional field, service to society, contributions to community, and loyalty and service to Luther. The City Lights Orchestra to perform at Luther Flamingo Ball Oct. 3
The City Lights Orchestra will perform at the 2009 Luther College Flamingo Ball Saturday, Oct. 3, 9 p.m. to midnight in the Regents Center Main Gymnasium on the Luther campus.
A traditional part of the annual Luther Homecoming Weekend, Flamingo Balls theme this year is Marios Party. The event is sponsored by Luthers Student Activities Council. Flamingo Ball organizers and sponsors extend an invitation to the Decorah community to attend and enjoy listening and dancing to the music of the City Lights Orchestras Big Band style of music. Mark Fenton, the nations most recognized walking advocate, will speak on Wednesday Oct. 7, 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College.

ArtsPower Theater to present Laura Ingalls Wilder Oct. 8 at Luther
ArtsPower National Theater will present Laura Ingalls Wilder Thursday, Oct. 8 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College.

The Evolution of God
Robert Wright an American journalist, will give the lecture The Evolution of God, Thursday, Oct. 8, 8 p.m. in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206 on the Luther College campus.
The program is sponsored by the Oen Fellowship Program which invites a distinguished guest lecturer to Luther biannually to explore and discuss intersections between religion, science, politics and the arts. Oen Fellows spend three to five days on campus meeting with both faculty and students to discuss issues in both formal and informal settings. Mike Gerdin 92, completed the 2009 Ford Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon, held in Madison Sept. 13. The event consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run. Gerdin is president of the Heartland Express trucking company, headquartered in North Liberty, Iowa.
