Luther College earns recognition for sustainability

Luther College has been recognized as one of the nation’s top colleges and universities in sustainability initiatives on the College Sustainability Report Card 2010, issued by the Sustainable Endowments Institute.

Luther was one of 26 institutions that achieved an overall grade of “A-“ or better across all categories and win recognition as Overall College Sustainability Leaders. Rising to the Occasion

James W. Anderson, a 2000 Luther College graduate, was honored as one of 40 professional at the black-tie Native American 40 Under 40 recognition reception Sept. 18.

Luther hosts lecture by Iowa Supreme Court Justice Mark Cady

Iowa Supreme Court Justice Mark Cady will present a guest lecture Tuesday, Oct. 27 in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206, on the campus of Luther College.

In April, Cady wrote the opinion in the case of Varnum v. Brien, a case that legalized same-sex marriage in Iowa. In his lecture, “Reflection on the Role of the Constitution in Correcting our Faults,” Cady will discuss the doctrine of equal protection under Iowa law and the case of Varnum v. Brien. Economics for Actual Human Beings

Steve Holland, Luther College assistant professor of economics, will speak on “Economics for Actual Human Beings,” Thursday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall on the Luther campus.

Luther Ultimate Invitational Tournament Oct. 24-25

Nine Ultimate teams from seven colleges and universities around the Midwest will compete on the athletic fields of Luther College Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25 when the college hosts the first Luther Ultimate Invitational Tournament.

The tournament will include LUFDA and Pound, the A and B squads from Luther, as well as the University of Iowa, Iowa State University A and B, Grinnell College, the University of Northern Iowa, St. Olaf College and Winona State University.
