Sebesta Blomberg consultants help Luther develop Energy Conservation Program

Luther College has hired consultants from Sebesta Blomberg, a worldwide engineering firm, to lend direction to a new initiative at Luther on energy conservation. The college is using a portion of the $45,000 Rocky Mountain Institute grant received this summer to bring the consultants to campus Nov. 3-4.

Sebesta Blomberg is an engineering firm that provides sustainable technical and business solutions that improve operational efficiency, enhance the quality of the work environment and reduce the cost of facility operation. Urban Bush Women to perform Nov. 7 at Luther College

Urban Bush Women, an internationally recognized dance ensemble, will perform Saturday, Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College.

Tickets for the performance go on sale Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Luther College Box Office. ‘3 Fervent Travelers’

Time for Three, an uncategorized and nationally renowned string trio, will perform Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College.

Tickets for the performance will go on sale Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Luther College Box Office. Tf3 blends classical, country western, gypsy and jazz music genres to create unique compositions. Luther College SAC presents Pale Young Gentlemen Nov. 6

Luther College Student Activities Council Spotlight committee presents Pale Young Gentlemen Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. in Marty’s CyberCafé located in Dahl Centennial Union on the Luther campus.

Luther to compete in ‘Battle of the Brains’ software competition

Students on the Luther College campus are preparing for the world’s most prestigious computer programming competition, the 34th annual Association for Computing Machinery’s International Collegiate Programming Contest.

Seniors Brett Hazen, Aaron Shatzer and Maria Werner will compete as the DaBraKe team, and seniors Andrew Baumann, Megan Hallberg and sophomore Adam Voss will compete as the Norse Coders. Barnes Scholarship to aid Gladbrook-Reinbeck students

Steve Barnes was surprised by several unique gifts from his professional colleagues when he retired as senior vice president of the Capital Group, a Los Angeles-based global investment firm, but the biggest surprise and the most rewarding gift was the announcement of the Barnes Memorial Scholarship.

Established in honor of his parents, Roy and Thelma Barnes, and funded by almost $75,000 in gifts to Luther from his colleagues, the Barnes Memorial Scholarship will provide financial aid for Gladbrook-Reinbeck (Iowa) High School students who enroll at Luther College. The first Luther student to benefit from the Barnes Memorial Scholarship is Rachel Schott, a Luther sophomore from Gladbrook. Luther College Book Shop to host event with author Gary Moore

Luther College Book Shop will host a speaking engagement and book signing session with author Gary Moore Thursday, Nov. 12 in Dahl Centennial Union on the Luther campus.

Moore will speak in Williams Lounge from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Refreshments will be served. Music and Conscience: Bach and Bonhoeffer

Luther College will sponsor a tour of Germany and the Czech Republic June 9-21. The tour will begin in Berlin, Bonhoeffer’s birthplace and the center of his teaching and work in the resistance against Hitler. The group will then travel to Leipzig, where Bach culminated his career and composed his most beloved works.
