Tom Maakestad ’80, has a new exhibition titled “Landscape of Change” on display at Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis, Minn. Maakestad’s subjects include rolling hills tilled for planting, country roads and colorful marshlands set against large atmospheric skies. In recent years, Maakestad has participated in numerous plein air festivals, giving him a heightened awareness for the affects of weather on our landscape and in turn, on his paintings. Much of the work in this exhibition has been made in this tradition. Working from one location during a condensed period of time, drawings are started and finished relatively quickly.
